World of Warcraft Item Upgrades The upgrade of an item can be used to improve the stats of an item. Based on the type of upgrade it could increase an item's Mark Level or Rarity and boost additional stats. Each item has a track for upgrading it. Each upgrade increases the cost of the next one by a specific amount. Item Level When an item gets upgraded, its stats increase in value. This value is the sum of an item's upgraded perks (attack magic attack and defense). Upgrades can be costly, depending on the person you hire and what you decide to do. This is due to the fact that many perks need to be replaced to allow the item to be upgraded. Item level is a commonly used measure of power, and can be seen on all item tooltips. It can also be used as a gating requirement when queueing for dungeons, raids and scenarios, and to limit the amount of PvP gear that a player can wear (since PvP is limited to the lower levels). Players can view their average level of items on their character sheet. The level of an item can help players evaluate the strength of equipment when deciding to purchase or sell. It's an indicator of the item's condition and its quality. The level of the item can be used to compare items when examining the inventory of a vendor. On PC, you can see the level of the item using ALT, or by using the left stick on XB1 or PS4. This will show the item's full description, including the ilvl. You can also find it by hovering over an item and typing /itemlevel in chat. There are a few theories on how the calculation of the item's level is made. One theory suggests that the item level is calculated by formulas that determine how valuable the stats of an item really are. It considers that different advantages are valued differently and that gems found in sockets boost the value of the item. This could result in a calculated item's ilvl that is often very close to Blizzard's real item level. However, this isn't the only factor that affects an item's ilvl, as the size of the area the item dropped in can change the value of its stats, such as by adding an amount to its haste or crit rating. This means that items that drop at higher levels will have higher ilvl than those from lower-level instances. Item Stats The stats of an item can determine the fate of an item for players. The game uses them in various ways to encourage players not to restrict themselves to a particular weapon and to encourage players to explore other weapons. The base stats on a weapon are increased by the weapon's stat modifications that are in turn boosted by the player's level. The upgrades to items add by boosting certain stats on the item. The rarity of an item determines the cost of upgrading. For example, a grey or white item can only be upgraded once, whereas an item with the rare levels will be upgraded multiple times at higher prices. Another way to change the stats of an item is to use affixes. These are special stat boosts that can be added to an item by the player, and come in a variety of sizes and shapes. The affixes can be used to give items extra damage or other special abilities (such as the ability to revive dead or reduce cooling downs) or to distinguish them by adding a name. At present, all affixes can be changed by selecting them from the upgrade window and pressing the green button using circling arrows. This will cost a specific amount in gold and items. They can also be used as upgrade gauges, just like the other methods of rerolling. Players can upgrade an item by a specific stat, or reroll attaches. The stat ranges are determined by the item's level. However each item will include at least one stat in that range unless they are a unique item or a God Roll from a boss in a raid. Another thing that could change is the possibility to upgrade equipment without having to reroll the attachments, or pick which stats to enhance. As with base equipment, it will have to be done per item, and the item comparison interface will not show all possible stats simultaneously. Item Luck The Luck stat of a player increases the likelihood of locating items and the properties that are created by loot and the strength of these properties. It doesn't, however directly impact damage or the ability to upgrade items. It gives players an opportunity to get better gear earlier in the game. This is more advantageous for early game runs, since players tend to prioritize defenses and weapon scaling over raw damage gains. In addition to influencing item discovery, Luck also increases the probability of being successful when upgrading items using the Blacksmith. This isn't to be confused with the Blacksmith's overall chance of upgrading that increase with each item level. These can also be increased by using anti-materials, such as the Scroll of Strength and a Jewel of Blessing. Armor, shields, and weapons have an initial Luck value of 40. These items can then be enhanced by golden ingots, spined leather, or oak boards (depending on the item's material type) to grant an additional +40 Luck or to boost the luck of an item, up to 140. Certain items, such as the weapon with Hollow-infused components can also be crafted to increase the damage of any ability that is able to deal damage by 5percent. These items can be found in the shops or made with the right ingredients. Item Failure Item upgrades are expensive and not all upgrades will be successful. However, there are some cash shop items that allow players to increase their chance of success or stop them from losing an item in the event that the upgrade fails. When you upgrade an item, the success rate is shown in the Honing UI. The percentage represents the chance of successfully upgrading that item, and can be enhanced by adding Additional Materials or Special Materials. The percentage of success can only be increased so much, and the likelihood that an upgrade will fail cannot exceed 100%.. The performance of an can be affected by the Luck of that item. Each item has a base success rate of 25%, and each item with Luck increases that chance by an additional 5%. item upgrade overlays for items are displayed above items in the inventory. This may block enchantment effects as well as other effects. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config.
